Diva Cup for Worry Free Travel for Women

I never thought in a million years that I would be writing a post about this ! First off, a little about me, I am in Menopause, been on Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy for just about a year now. In a drought for the past 5, years.
I belong to a wonderful Facebook travel group of young ladies, fellow wanderlusters, Girls Who Travel. One day there was a post about feminine cycles and how and what women do to deal with the combo of menstrual flow and travel. Out of curiosity I read it... but then shortly thereafter I scrolled on by, "Doesn't apply to me, or so I thought".
Not kidding you... a few weeks later and I am packing for my upcoming 3 week Adventure to S.E. Asia... this trip is loaded with flight hopping, boating, hotel surfing ! A very zippity trip ! When behold, I begin to have a monthly visit ! What ? Can't be ! Now, after 5 years ! Good lord I have a 17 hour flight to be on in just 2 days ! At the peak of the pour ! Oh nooooooo... what to do, what to do...
Meanwhile, I am in the middle of writing my travel journal blog post about "What's in my travel bag" and how to pack light, minimal and with a carry-on, no checked baggage for a 3 weeker, and now this... I will have to pack an additional box of pads and pons - Goodness no ! And all the bathroom runs on the plane... Because god knows I was blessed with an abundant flow ! I have horror stories from high school, important events and travels that have been ruined to say the least from the curse ! And here I thought I was finally over all that.
Well, I revisited that GWT post in my mind and immediately went online to read about this device ... and find out where I can get my hands on a DIVA CUP ! ... turns out they are sold at my local CVS. So, off I went in search of hope !
I found 2 boxes... Diva 1 for 30 and younger and Diva 2 for 30 and over (for after vaginal deliveries, understandingly) I grabbed Diva 2. 39.00 ! This better work ! Cause I'm pretty certain there's not a return policy on something like this ! (more info here : divacup.com)
I removed the antiquated means of absorption, that was already failing, I had worn for just about an hour. And began reading the instruction booklet from front to back and some lines twice ! I have to admit I was a bit queezy to think of how... I could do what it took to get it well you know... up there.
I jumped right in... I needed to test it out before the next days flight ! ... and get used to the ins and outs of it. Because I wouldn't be doing it from the convenience of my home and probably the convenience of a USA traditional bathroom, more like an airplane closet with air turbulence and a squat pot or 2 in Thailand ! (god I hope I don't drop it) YIKES.. I don't even want to think about that yet, baby steps. Just need to get thru the 2 hours pre-flight and 17 hour fight - 2 hr layover in Taipei, 1 hr in customs and the 20 min drive to the hotel, check-in... seems infinite !
So, I did it... it wasn't all that bad, just a little snafu at first but it was up and in. I continued to pack. I wanted to test my personal flow in the matter. So, after about an hour I removed it to see how full it was and how it would perform.... off to bed.
I awoke, ready to see the results... No wet bed ! And upon removal, well it wasn't even near full. Hmmmm No Niagra falls ? ... the rest of the morning, while exercising I again tested it... because this was going to pre-determine if I was to fill my luggage with boxes of femine accessories, plan "B"... it passed the test so off I went, Diva cup and a few back up liners and pons, just in case.
Made it through the 17 hours flight, it did it's job ! Bring on the Champagne ! No issues, no leakage, no discomfort, no problem no need for the backup plan.
Grateful for the Girls Who Travel and for having a place to share our knowledge, empowering women with little things, like this little DIVA CUP!
I shared this with my grown twenty something daughters and unbelievably with all of you ! I don't think I will be going back to the old school ways, innovation has arrived, Diva cup where where you all my life !! ??
