**Quick Recipe For This Week**
I'm going to share a secret with you... Here is the best granola recipe ever!!! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/granola-recipe/index.html Have you ever made homemade granola? It is the easiest and most yummy thing you could do for yourself! The recipe is very basic and you can easily tweak the ingredients to make it healthier by using grape seed oil or unsweetened coconut or even using less brown sugar. If you want to kick it up a notch you can add some spices like cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon to give it that wintery comfort feel. My usual tweak is adding cinnamon, vanilla extract, sunflower seeds and pecans. It makes a good size batch that you can store in a container in the fridge for up to a month. Mine never lasts for more than a few days though!! Next time you're at the market grab some ingredients and add your own flare, you won't be disappointed!! I love farms, if I could live and work on one I would!! That's why my visit to Amy's Farm in Ontario Ca was so much fun! Every Saturday from 9am-2pm there is a stand where you can purchase locally grown fresh fruits and veggies. A visit to Amy's blog allows you to see what’s in season and available for purchase that day. My husband and I grabbed our morning Starbucks and headed to the farm! We were greeted by cows, horses, chickens and a few cute kids running the register. I was hoping to meet and chat with Amy during our trip but sadly, she wasn't there that day. There was however, an array of herbs, tomatoes, peppers, limes, pumpkins and sunflowers for purchase. I needed to get some fresh parsley but I also decided to be adventurous and snag the Chinese long beans for some yummy stir-fry. My favorite part was visiting with the animals on the way out. We got to pet a very friendly horse and a curious cow that wanted to lick me and steal my beans! So, if you’re interested in picking up fresh produce or you have children that want to see some animals, I’d recommend going for a visit. Additionally, Amy’s Farm participates in a community supported agriculture program (CSA)... What does that mean you ask? Great question! CSAs are a way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. A farmer offers “shares” for purchase to the public, which usually consists of a weekly (or bi-weekly) box of vegetables, fruit, and sometimes dairy/eggs/meat products, depending on the farm. I found Amy's farm through http://www.localharvest.org/csa/, I encourage you check out the website to find your local CSA program today!
A weekender at Paso Robles is never truly complete without a visit to Thomas Hill Organics (THO). Nestled in a quiet alley in Downtown Paso, THO strives to bring seasonal, creative and inspiring dishes to each of its guests. We decided since it was a blistering 100 degrees during the day that we would keep dinner light. Our Introduction for the evening was a black lentil puree, watermelon & lime salsa, bengahli spices and fresh baked pita. I can't say enough about the marriage of flavors in this dish; the warmth from the benghali spice paired with the coolness of from the salsa is heavenly. Since I am a sucker for burrata cheese, I had to try the tomato and burrata salad with basil pesto and local olive oil. The juiciness of local heirloom tomatoes and the creaminess of the cheese makes it a go to salad. Our savory finale, thin crust pizza with cambazola cheese, caramelized onions, figs, and red wine reduction needs no further description, other than simply delicious! We concluded the evening with a chocolate fondant cake, a flourless cake with bittersweet chocolate and mint creme fraiche to give it a little tangy zest. Thomas Hill Organics is one of my favorite restaurants, It is a must to visit if you find yourself in the Paso area.
